Human Resource - an important pillar of every company

Human resources - an underestimated department in many companies. The larger the company, the more important communication between employees and management is. But even in small companies it is important to integrate an authority between employer and employee. In this blog article you will find out exactly what the tasks of human resources/personnel management are and how they contribute to the company's success.

Human Resource is translated as personnel management or the personnel department of a company. The term human resource is becoming increasingly popular, especially in German-speaking countries, due to criticism that “personnel management” views a company’s personnel as a tool. Human Resource, on the other hand, focuses on viewing employees as a resource in which the company should actively invest.

Human resources are responsible for managing the human resources lifecycle. This includes application processes and the hiring of new staff, but also their continued well-being in the company.

What are the tasks of human resources?

HR has a lot of responsibility in this process: the right candidate can revitalize the entire company in a positive way, whereas the wrong candidate risks bringing operations to a standstill.  

Part of this process is also the organization of interviews, the coordination of recruitment processes and finally the hiring and training of new employees, but also bureaucratic processes such as the coordination of important documents in the recruitment process.

The most bureaucratically demanding and, above all, complex task of HR is payroll accounting. HR is responsible for ensuring that all important data is available and accounted for on payday. This includes, for example, the reimbursement of expenses, the accounting of salary increases and bonuses, but also quite simply ensuring that all timesheets are filled out, accounting for these hours and organizing vacation days.

Probably the most unpleasant topic when it comes to HR: disciplinary proceedings. Here too, the responsibility for implementation lies with HR. However, appropriate implementation can have very positive effects on the team.

A very simple example is maintaining fairness within the team and supporting staff in certain areas. For example, HR can offer counseling services to people who are regularly late for work or appointments to support them. If successful, this will prevent staff from having to be laid off - which would result in a new recruitment process. This can save the company a lot of money.

But sometimes disciplinary proceedings are simply not the best solution. HR usually knows best which employees are the best fit for the company and which are simply difficult to fully integrate. Firing these employees is also the responsibility of HR.
